October Speaker: Margarita Summerer-Moustaki, MD

Margarita Summerer-Moustaki

Margarita Summerer-Moustaki, MD is a 41 year old Obstetrics/Gynecology Physician, with her own practice  since 2004 in Munich (at Candidplatz-U1).

Born in Athens, Greece, she was raised in New York City, attending Barnard College, Columbia University, and  receiving her medical degree from the University of Rochester, New York.

She went on to complete her residency in OB/Gyn at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital (Columbia University).

She moved to Munich in July of 2000, and continued her training at the University hospital of LMU, Klinikum Großhadern, where she also completed a subspecialty in reproductive endocrinology  (hormone and infertility specialist). She is married and a mother of three children ages 4, 8 and 12.

The topic of her presentation will be ”The meaning of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Infection and its prevention via immunisation”. An infection with high risk HPV Virus is the main cause of cervical cancer. 

Since 2007 there are two immunisations that propagate the eradication of the virus and with it cervical cancer. Should we immunize our children? What are the risks and benefits of immunisation?
