The sun has finally decided to share its warmth and joy with us in Munich, the deliciously scented lilacs and pungent Bärlauch are blooming, while window boxes and planters burst with color.

The Englischer Garten is full of bright golden dandelions, and families and friends gather on lawns and Biergartens to enjoy the weather and being with one another.

And with the sun comes thoughts of Garden
Day. It has become an annual tradition for members of our club to help prepare the garden at the Frauenhaus for summer, planting flower boxes, transplanting donated perennials, and tidying up from the winter and weeds. Because of the necessity of the very private nature of this shelter for women and children, this is one of the very few hands-on opportunities our members have to be involved with our major charity.

As she has for several years in the past, Susie Lentz is organizing this year’s Garden Day on Wednesday, June 5. If you are interested in being part of this very fulfilling and worthwhile project, please contact Susie for more information, Susie@lentz.at. There will be additional information posted on the blog about this opportunity.

The newly formed charity fundraising team has been very busy with ideas for this year’s fundraisers.  They are quite excited about putting together a new cookbook of international recipes, as well as places in Munich to buy international ingredients and other new and relevant information. Plans are in the works to use new technologies to format and publish this cookbook. Stay tuned for a blog post in the near future with more information. They are also making plans for the Christmas bazaar, which has been so popular and successful the last couple of years. This year the bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 16. Save the date!

And just for fun, our first time at the Frühlingsfest with the MING group at the Hippodrome was a huge success and much fun for all 25 of us who were able to attend. We had members and partners from Bavaria, Germany, the UK, the US, Mexico, Australia, India, Algeria (did I forget anyone?!). We will do this again!

Please be sure to read this month’s ‘Focus on the Activities Team and Conversation Groups’ to learn what these very busy and dedicated members are up to every month and how they enrich our lives here in Munich.

With hopes that you all have many opportunities to get out and enjoy Munich in this beautiful early summertime,
Liz
