Autumn Leaves

Message from Liz
October 2014

Hello to all MIWC members and visitors,

The clocks have ‘fallen back,’ the cozy evening hours come sooner, and after a glorious autumn (and late summer!) we look forward to this next season in the year…and in our club!

I am very pleased to announce that the following women have agreed to put their names forward for the MIWC Executive Committee, to be elected at the AGM in Feb. 2015:
Cecily Garver, Chairperson
Erika Samano, Liesel O’Shea, Vice-Chairpersons
Peggy Dauser, Treasurer

Cecily Garver has been a valuable and enthusiastic MIWC member for almost two years. Upon joining our club, she quickly put her hand up to help with the finance team where her professional financial background has been much appreciated. Among many other contributions, Cecily is a member of these other teams: 25th anniversary, FAWCO, membership liaison, and the Christmas bazaar. Cecily’s friendliness, extensive volunteer background and organizational skills make her an ideal candidate to lead the club forward in its next two years.

The two vice-chairperson candidates, Erika and Liesel, have also been very significant already to the health and happiness of the MIWC. Our club is indeed fortunate that Erika has agreed to continue on in her second term as vice-chair. She has been a very positive and willing member of the executive board and a key member of the activities team, as well as the 2013 Christmas bazaar and 25th anniversary teams, among many other contributions. Liesel’s smile and participation in the FAWCO, welcoming and Christmas bazaar teams, and a coordinator of the popular Lunch Bunch activity have shown her to be a friendly and very capable addition to our leadership team.

After an obligatory two-year absence from the executive team, Peggy Dauser returns as treasurer. Her professional and thorough maintenance of all of the club’s financial records, and her helpful and calm advice and guidance continue to be greatly appreciated!

The process to identify and assemble the executive board slate was guided this year by a nominating team under the always-capable leadership of our past chairperson, Hope Moore. Many thanks to members of this team: Susi Cullison, Georgia Chapman, and Liesel O’Shea for their time and thoughtful considerations in the selection of our 2015-2017 leadership team.

Our club has been very busy in many other ways! Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Charity projects (see the charity team’s previous post for more information), with thanks to all those who submitted proposals and especially to the charity team members who coordinated the process: Jane Romain, Teresa Saunders and Gisella Ackermann. This was a great opportunity for members to nominate some of their favorite charity projects for club donations of money earned through our successful fundraisers from our generous members.

The FAWCO Foundation’s Education Awards applications are now available (see the FAWCO teams previous post for more information). MIWC member, Madaline Keros, was the recipient of one of these awards in March 2014. This is a great opportunity for any member (all nationalities), her child or grandchild to receive an educational award for study in Germany, the US, or elsewhere. Please contact Hope Moore,, for more information.

And don’t forget these super fun holiday events coming up quickly!
• Christmas Bazaar: Wed., 12 Nov, 10-1, Peace Church. Tasty bake sale, and unique and handmade gifts by talented members! Do some early Christmas shopping (maybe for yourself!) and support the MIWC’s charities at the same time.
